DreamHack partners with Swedish National Television
Dreamhack are kicking of their first event of the year this weekend in the shape of a two day open tournament dubbed “Dreamhack Ezio open“. The tournament will take place in Globen, Annexet a convention hall with enough seats for 3000 people. The event will however, as the title reveals reach far more people as Dreamhack has announced an intimate partnership with SVT, one of Sweden’s largest television stations.
Tomas Hermansson said to mynewsdesk.com that the interest for televised esports is “growing at an unbelievable rate” and that they will be able to “deliver high quality games to the masses through the new partnership with SVT“.
This is of course not only great news for Swedish fans of esports, but for the esports community as a whole. As many of you know, esports such as League of Legends and Starcraft 1 & 2 has only ever been seen on South Korean television reguarly. To see it finally occur on western tv stations is a dream come true for many fans of the different games who wish to see esports be “legitimized” and see it gain the same reception as “regular” sports.
The first event to be televised is Dreamhack Ezio open, which takes place between April 21st-22nd.
