This is a very early-in-the-stage thread about the upcoming CSN Quake Live TDM event.

The event is for real and there will be at least $800 in cash prizes!

Currently, TDM is not very much alive in NA.. in fact, its pretty much not alive at all.. but its possible with an event like this, we can help build it up again. However, rebuilding the TDM community in NA will require not only a bit of prize money and a consistent event, but it will require the community to step up and take ownership of the success of fail of TDM in NA.

What I mean by this.. is that teams will need to be formed and sustained, matches will need to be played, sportsmanship must be above the norm and the league must be consistent.

I assure you that the Cyber Sports Network will be consistent, but it will be very important for the teams to do the same for this event to be a success and for there to be any hopes of it helping build a sustainable TDM community.

So.. this thread will be your ticket into the event.

Nothing is set in stone in this thread. We realize that teams will change as we reach the actual event, but its very important that when submitting your team information, that you think it through and that it be as close to final as possible.

All teams that wish to be a part of the TDM event, (which will be a mini-league format) must do the following:

1. Each Player must be a registered user of this website.

2. Each team must be created on this website by a captain.

3. Each team profile must have a decent looking logo that signifies your team. (no kitten pictures or logos already in use). We will be streaming these events and posting match up details on several news sites. Its time we take eSports a bit more serious!
If you have a name.. and want a decent team logo you may contact me directly and I will do what I can.

4. Each player must have a profile picture that is of them!

5. A roster of at least 4 players must be complete before you will be considered.

6. Your team must be active and must be prepared to play on set match nights! Forfeits will not be tolerated!

OK.. enough for now.. please start posting questions, comments, suggestions, concerns and your teams now!

Thanks!

The Prize pot has been raised to $1000.00.

Here are the payouts for Top 3 teams (regardless of number of teams that enter)

1. $500.00
2. $300.00
3. $200.00

Rules and Settings Updates:

1. Euro Teams will only be allowed if a majority of the NA Teams agree to allow them. The reasoning behind having the event for NA teams only is that the prize money should go to help build the NA TDM Community. There will also be server issues regardless of any rules CSN puts in place regarding servers and pings. NA Teams will possibly complain about the Euro teams lag issues and the Euro teams will complain about the time of the event matches.

My suggestion is to not allow Euro TDM Teams into the event. I appreciate their skill and their passion for the gametype, but for CSN's first major Team event in which there is $1000.00 on the line, I would prefer to avoid any headache with allowing Euro teams and wish to reward NA Teams that make an effort to build the NA TDM scene.

2. Teams that wish to be a part of the event, must register their team on the CSN Site. Once they have done this, they must post their team information into this forum thread. This is where the admins will consider each team and confirm that their team is interested and has fulfilled the requirements to be awarded a spot.

3. There is no maximum on the number of teams that will be allowed, however.. an even number of teams will be needed. We will not accept the 9th teams until the 10th team has registered. It is strongly suggested that teams start signing up early to avoid this situation.

Thanks,

NA TDM League/Tournament Structure:

The following structures will be used based on the number of teams that apply and are accepted:

1.1. Less then 7 Teams
In the case of there being less then 6 teams, teams will be grouped into a single group. Each team will play all other teams in the group (Round Robin scheduling) in a Best of 3 maps series. 3 Points will be awarded for a 2-0 map win. 2 Points will be awarded for a 2-1 map win and 1 point will be given to the team with 1 map win. The top 2 teams based on points, wins, and head-to-head matches will advance to the Championship. The Championship will be played as a Best of 5 map series with the winner determined as the team to win 3 maps first.

The prize payout for this structure will be $800.00 (1st - $500, 2nd - $300) with the remaining $200 going into the Duel Prize Pool or being used to reward viewers on the live stream.

1.2 Eight (8) Teams
In the case of there being 8 teams exactly, teams will be grouped into two groups of 4 teams each. Each team will play all other teams in their group (Round Robin Scheduling) in a best of 3 map series. Three (3) Points will be awarded for a 2-0 map win. Two (2) Points will be awarded for a 2-1 map win and the 1 point will be given to the team with 1 map win. The top 2 teams from each group will advance to a single elimination bracket to determine the Champion. The "Finals" Bracket will be a best of 5 map series with the winner determined as the team to win 3 maps first.

The Prize payout will be as stated in the initial tournament information.

1.2 Ten (10) Teams
In the case of there being 10 teams exactly, teams will be grouped into two groups of 5 teams each. Each team will play all other teams in their group (Round Robin Scheduling) in a best of 4 map series.

1.2 Twelve (12) Teams
In the case of there being 12 teams exactly, teams will be grouped into three groups of 4 teams each. Each team will play all other teams in their group (Round Robin Scheduling) in a best of 4 map series. Three (3) Points will be awarded for a 2-0 map win. Two (2) Points will be awarded for a 2-1 map win and the 1 point will be given to the team with 1 map win. The top 2 teams from each group will advance to a single elimination bracket to determine the Champion. The top two (2) overall teams based on points will be given a 1st round bye in the 6 teams single elimination bracket. The "Finals" Bracket will be a best of 5 map series with the winner determined as the team to win 3 maps first.

The Prize payout will be as stated in the initial tournament information.

Additional information:

Due to current limitations on the site, the forums (along with additional links) will be used to display the schedule and standings for the TDM event. The "Finals' bracket will be generated on the CSN website.

why have you had to make 3 teams on the site? I want to fix that issue immediately if is a website issue.

well its cause I've made Nx teams for "Quake Live", "Quake Live CTF", and "Quake Live TDM". It was necessary since the website doesn't allow you to make the same team twice.. even AFTER deleting the team. I've just been using slightly different alterations (like Next Level instead of The Next Level and Nx- instead of Nx. to get around it).

higgs.. that issue will be addressed immediately. I believe there is another way to do it. Technically the site was originally setup to allow 1 team to be made that could enter multiple events. One thing you may try is to make an 'Organization'.. then from there you should be able to make multiple 'match teams' that you can use in different events.

I will confirm all of this and get exactly what needs to be done and what needs to be fixed.

Thank you.

Hey John

I understand why you want to have matches at fixed times and I agree with the coverage aspect of it. But keep in mind that if you get say 8 teams, you're looking at 4 matches in a single night out of which you'll probably cover 1 match. So instead of fixing every match in a given round for one night I suggest you do what quakenight did quite successfully. Each week you fix one match from the available matchups for the fixed time (thursday night or whatever). This would be a game that is an interesting matchup that people would want to watch. And you let the other matches be scheduled by the clans. Obviously you'd have to have the clans schedule the "unfixed" matches in advance, so you could possibly cover those as well. And you'd have to distribute the fixed matches between the clans evenly over the course of the tournament.

Overall I think this system will work better as you have the possibility of covering more matches while at the same time giving clans some leeway in terms of scheduling their games. The scene is small enough that extra leeway might let some players play who wouldnt have made thursday nights.

On the issue of euro teams, I certainly don't have an issue with it as long as they're fine with playing on a server picked by the na team. hell ill even play them on nyc every time but i suspect west coast players feel differently. but just my 2 cents. (honestly i think u should let them play simply because ull get much more viewership and im interested in seeing if the euros can beat us even on high ping.)
